Location: Cohasset, MN | Had a fish follow me in on a prop bait. I kept the bait on top for the 8 but she came to a stop and just watched a couple loops and swam off. Would it have been better to submerge the bait and treat it like a spinner (for instance) ? What's the prevailing wisdom out there ? thanks... |

Location: Illinois | Submerge it and do your eight. I learned this on an episode of the Next Bite featuring Doug Johnson. Tex Maina had asked Doug how to "eight" a prop bait, and soon after listening to him suggest submerging it, he caught a hog on the eight!! |

Location: Browerville, Minnesota | Definately take it under the surface. Lots of time when you take it subsurface the bait leaves a bubble trail and it will help to trigger the strike. Once you start the bait, keep it going just as you would with a bucktail or other baits. |

| I like to take prop baits and rotating butt baits and submerge them on the 8 going high in the corners to get a gurgle or splash, and then down on a slight angle on the straight away. Lots of times they will follow close on the straight away and eat it as soon as it breaks the surface when you take it high in the corners.

| Mix it up. I do what Beav suggests. Usually at first I take it under to see if they react to the bubble trail theory and for the simple fact that I think taking it subsurface will increase hooking percentage, but some times it takes a pass on top to get them going. Had a fish do exactly what Beav said this year with a buzzbait (i.e. follow straight-aways subsurface, swipe and miss when brough back to top, finally ate just after plunging bait down after a quick pass on top at one of the corners). |

Location: WI | I had one follow a Rumbler to the boat and I swung it around the bow on the sruface, the dumb fish got mesmerized by the trolling motor and snuggled up to the shaft until it got spooked and swam off. Weird fish. |
