I see that they have centrifgul brakes but are they ajustable to slow the spool speed down?

PM California_Muskie for your answer. If he doesn't know it I'll eat my Okuma hat.

You can slow the spool/ increase tension by tightening the knob on the right side of the spool by the handle, just like most baitcasting reels. I think this is what you are talking about.

Adjustable yes, but you have to take the side plate off the reel and pop out the spool to engage or disengage the centrifugal brake blocks, at least that's how the 400's are.

I have 2 IDx400's that I run with 2 brake blocks engaged and the spool tension backed off,,, and do get the occasional backlash if my thumb gets lazy.

Gerard... I am not sure. I heard the hats taste great with BBQ sauce or A-1

On a serious note... you can use the cast control knob as mentioned to apply tension on the spool shaft. Typically, that is the only adjustment that I make to apply tension. As others mentioned, the reel comes with a 6 pin centifugal breaking system. This is accessed by taking the sideplate off of the reel and taking the spool out. You can play with the amount of pins you put in the "on" position (Not completely against the spool). I wouldn't put more that 1/2 of them in the "on" position or it will hamper the casting distance of lighter baits. If neither of these options work for you... I can send you and additional washer that you can put under the cast control knob to apply more tension that way.

If you have any other questions... please let me know.

On a side note... make sure that when you put the sideplate back on the reel, the thumb bar shaft goes inbetween the white mechanism on the sideplate. If you don't put it back correctly, the thumb bar will appear "broken" and not work. I have had a few people ask about this.

I would prefer the spicy BBQ sauce. But I don't need to as you can clearly see Mark knows whats happening. :)
