I just looked at one of these reels today and have a few questions. One, when you flip the reel to free spool and then engage the reel, do you need to push in the button on top of the lever or can you just flip it up? Two, are there no spool adjustment to slow the spool down on a cast? They were on clearance for a decent price and wanted some answers before I go and buy. Thanks!

Spool adjustment is on the other side. Took me a minute, too. m

IT sounds like you are looking at a 7000 lever drag. Is this correct? If so then no you do not need to push the button down to engage the reel. There is no knob to adjust the tension because that is done with the lever drag.

These reels are not for casting, they are for trolling.

Really? In the instruction manual it says these reels are designed to cast heavy lures. Makes sense as to why there is no spool adjustment on them now. If I did buy one and use it for casting, would it hurt the reel? The price is making me want to buy it, but I don't want to junk it and then have to buy another reel.

There should be a button or a lever to disengage the spool for casting not both. Maybe you could post the full model nuymber and reelman can tell you what you have.
