| Hello, My name is Wayne. I have a school project it is an interview. I need to interview Muskie lure makers. So if anybody that makes lures would please help with my English assignment, I would greatly appreciate it How did you become a lure maker? Did you have an inspiration(S) and who were they? What made you decide to make Muskie lures? When did you make your first lure, How old were you? How many do you make on average in a month? In what way do you advertise? How many sizes, colors and varieties do you make? How do you ship them? What is the differance that sets your lures apart from the rest? How long have you been making lures? On average how long does it take to make one lure? | |||

| Wayne, I don't sell my stuff on the retail market but I will answer your questions. 1) My dad bought a bender and some supplies. He made some and stopped so I started to make them and they worked great. 2) My inspirations were to make a lure that would catch a musky. 3)My dad had the supplies and I could make a spinner for the exact application I needed. Lighter for over the weedtops, larger blades, different color combinations. ect. 4)I made my first one about 5 years ago, I was about 34. 5)That depends, for me about 2 a month but latley about 10 a month average for others who want them. 6)Since I am not in the retail money making aspect, just here on this site and word of mouth. 7) There is no limit. I have not limited myself to anything yet. 8) US Mail, first class works ok. 9) They are a little different than the rest. I custom make them. I often use a larger blade for the size of bait than most and I make a large variety of styles, tubes, twin tail, single tail and shad bodies. 10) About 5 years now. 11)It depends on the lure. A smaller tube spinner may take 5 min. and a very large shad body may take 15 min to make. Do you want one? [email protected] | |||

| Wayne, you may get a faster response if you go directly with the lure manufacturers. Here are a couple of addresses to start with. Musky Mania Tackle Company Slammer Tackle Company I don't make baits although I have started to recondition and repaint my own. Hope this helps. | |||

| Like toddm I don't sell my lures but it's interesting to learn about lurebuilders as well, not just manufacturers because often the manufacturing starts after a period of building your own lures. 1) I tried to build small jerkbaits after an article in a magazine. I liked it and they caught really well (first hour 7 pike with one of 901cm) so I continued 2) my main inspiration and my teacher was and still is Freddie De Boevere. He builds his own jerkbaits as well and those were sold at some point but not anymore. Other than that I came in contact with lurebuilders all over the world and exchanging info and lures with them kept me continuing. If noone boosts your confidence and catches are low you are very sucseptible to quiting 3) I build pike lures but the size is just as good for muskie. I only fish for pike and perch so the chosie was obvious. 4) I built my first jerkbait in 1999 (I was 20 at the time). I did tie my own pikeflies and built my own spinners for several years before this. 5) about 15 a month if I have the time. School keeps me really busy so I continue when I can. When my list iof finished I'm talking a loooooooong break though. 6) though not for sale, my lures can be seen on my website www.lurebuilding.nl and other than that word of mouth. For a retailer I believe word of mouth is more important than adds in magazines, etc. If people catch on them you'll hear about it. 7) unlimited ! 8) regular mail. It takes me about a week or two (max)to get the lures to whoever wants them, but the other way round it's often a mess. I have been waiting on some lures from the USA for 4 weeks now. Some never arrived (three times so far). Shipping abroad is best done with airmail. 9) nothing beats handbuilt lures?? I don't know, the fact that I custom-build them to your wishes adds a little extra I guess. 10) 3rd year now 11) a couple of weeks. I have a time problem so I continue when I can. If I didn't have this problem: about 2 weeks max Good luck! [] | |||
