Location: minneapolis | What do you guys do with your leakers? I tweaked a couple 10" jakes by drilling a couple of holes and filling them with "great stuff" sealed them back up with silicone and I think they are way cooler in the water! They have a different wobble, no rattles, and they don't leak. Your thoughts? |

Location: Black Creek, WI | Yup... been doing the Great Stuff trick for years. Another "plus" to that is it makes it easier to custom weight those Jakes too.... allowing you to work with them almost as if they were a wood lure.
But.... for those that want to keep the rattle and higher bouyancy.... I've had success by just sealing the lip edges and hook hangers with a dab of epoxy. |

| I actually have some that leaked from teeth punctures, the amount of water in one of them made the bait neutral buoyant, so I left it, epoxyed the holes shut, and kept it with water in it. The bait catches more fish now than it did before.
How are you guys putting the spray in foam in there? drilling a big hole and then pluggin it? or using a smaller tube with your foam? I'd like to try it to a few of my bigger jakes, take the rattles out, and play with the weighting a bit. |

| you need to drill 2 small holes. one for foam and the other to release the air and gases. just trim light sand and epoxy the holes. . another thing try a little crazy glue to make sure lips stay in place. |

Location: Clintonville, WI | Here's a "related issue".....I have two Jakes and a Grandma that I left outside during a heat wave this summer. They warped in some areas and split at the seams. I have not had them in the water since then, but I am assuming they leak at the seams.
I think they'll still work fine if I can figure out how to seal the seams. Do I just dip them in clear coat? Any suggestions? |

Personally I will not purchase any of these baits for this exact reason! Yes I do know that they will catch fish,but why do I have to modify or repair them? Tweeking a Suick's tail or adjusting a screw eye on another bait is no big deal,but filling with foam or adding weight just to make them perform,come on! FYI if anyone is interrested I have around 50 custom built baits that don't exactly work correctly, but for $15 you could tweek all you wanted!!!!
Seriously, there are some bait's (Mass production), that have more than their share of problems, others Rock right out of the box!
