I've seen hundreds of photos of caught muskies. Some are held vertically but most are held horizontally, with one hand supporting the weight of the musky. I've yet to catch a musky but when I do, I'd like to know the best ( for the fish) way to hold the fish for a quick picture. I'm also not real sure where to grip the fish under it's mouth. Any advice would be appreciated.

there's a realy good explanation for the best/easiest way to use a gill hold, found here:

If you unsure about placing your hand inside the gill cover, then one hand around the tail, and the other under the belly. The problem with this hold is that if the fish tries to "make a break for it", the fish can come out of your hands real quick, meaning its not a real secure hold.

Brittlab are you coming to the M.I. meeting on the 23rd? This would be a good thing to go over at the first meeting. There will be several experienced fishermen and the D.N.R. present. Think less=good. Less time out of the water, less time verticle, etc.

sheeeeet dude, yer in Iowa. Don't worry about it.

Ok ok, it is a good question.

So, dude, look to the pics on the profiles.

Deal: 1) don't get hurt, 2) don't hurt the fish.
