The Symposium was opened at breakfast this morning by Larry Ramsell ringing the breakfast bell and getting us all on our toes with a familiar WRMT theme.

The main sessions and break out sessions were absolutely fascinating, especially the session on Georgian Bay by AP Liskauskjas/associates, Rob Kimms discussion on the social fabric of the present and future of Muskie angling( thoughtful, insightful, and straight to the point), Russ Wayre's discussion of top lakes and locations ( ONE OF THE BEST short presentations I have ever seen, thanks, Russ), and Steve Heiting's enjoyable and informative new presentation on triggering big muskies.

There wasn't a single presentation I'd have missed! My largest regret was missing Jordan Weeks' presentation on Muskie movement on the Manitowish Chain.

Slamr went to that one, and has voluminous notes.

We videotaped most of the sessions including the---IMPRESSIVE!!!!!--- Georgian Bay work on location, spawning, and much more (HUGE fish), Kevin Kapuscinski's tremendous and exciting Green Bay Great Lake Muskellunge presentation ( wait till you see THIS one, this gentleman is a dynamo and was quite an enjoyable speaker with lots of good news about Green Bay!), John Farrell's Upper St. Lawrence River presentation, Jerry Younk on Minnesota Muskie Waters, and much more.

Steve Heiting did a great job of relaxing and entertaining a tired but happy crowd of 180 plus, as the day closed with his video presentation of a good fish in what can only be described as a time when he really should have been in camp!

The Symposium wraps up at noon tomorrow. There will be a lengthy follow-up to this event here on MuskieFIRST as we edit and format a huge volume of photos, notes, and video ( I have over 9 hours of presentations taped). Anyone REALLY interested in Muskies and Muskie management will really enjoy the material.

Sorno,
In a couple of the presentations the range of the Muskie across the US and Canada now and in the past was discussed, and YOUR state was one highlighted in Yellow as a new Muskie fishery! Wish you could have been here sir, this is nothing short of way too cool.

New in the big picture I suppose...but the program was initiated in 1989, nearly died, and was revived in 1991. Seems like it's been going on forever to me.
You have no idea how badly I would have liked to attend, but it's hard to justify that much in out of state travel costs to attend a symposium about a species that, out here, is basically a management 'by-product'
Alas, I'll probably have to read the book...

Yes Jealousy is running rampant. Even more so when I have to place the blame for having elective time off of work canceled on a certain south side baseball team who over achieved. #*^@ I wish I was there!!!! Cant wait for the publications/summaries.
