Location: Athens, Ohio | http://www.kymuskie.com/ or Gregg Thomas at www.battlethebeast.com both have fishing reports, and Gregg has reports on Muskies 101. 'Crash'Mullins quit doing internet reports on his site, I guess. You can't really 'call the lake', so I'd hire one of Tony's guides for the day and really have them show you around. If you need specific tips, e-mail or PM me, I've fished the lake a lot and even caught one fish there. That's a good time to be going, since water temps soar in the summer. good luck. m | ||

| I fish there a few days a month. By late April there should still be some muskies in the backs of the bays near creek mouths. All you'll hear about the Cave in the spring is Rattlebaits, and they account for a lot of fish, occasional big girls too, but I see and hear about a ton of mid-30's fish being caught that way. I myself have caught only mid-30's fish myself on them, but I always have one on one rod. I prefer bigger baits mainly. By late April, depending on water temps, they may be starting to move out of the bays and onto the flats adjacent to the main lake. Last April at that time I hooked up with 4 in the mid-40's over two days on the flats and fishing shallow over deeper water near main lake points with gliders. The lake is usually pretty muddy in spring and this spring has been no exception. Orange is a poplular color there, and noisy baits always seem to do better for me. Tony is pretty helpful if you visit his website and ask a question on his board, or see him on the lake. Also you can stop by Crashes Landing on 801 on the way to the lake, Crash or Justin, if they are there, are always really helpful to me and from the beginning they wanted me to hook up, and even though I never have hired them to guide me, they wanted to put me on fish and after three days of no fish one trip, Crash marked my map for me and told me what to throw and how to throw it, and sure enough I met up with a fat 39" that was so welcome after three 12 hour days of not a sniff. The Comfort Inn at 64 and 801 has new rooms with Wi-Fi for around 60 bucks, and there is also Tony's Mountain Muskie Lodge farther South on the way to Longbow Ramp. I've never stayed at Tony's but I hear good things. The Front Porch in Morehead has pretty good food and liquid refreshmens, usually a few college kids hanging out and sports on TV. Good luck! Posts: 1936 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Get a hold of Tony, Gregg, Crash or Justin. It's worth hiring one of them for at least a 1/2 day. All good guys with good knowledge to get you pointed in the right direction. | ||
