I plan on trolling some 10" Jakes next year.
My Question is What pound test line do you guys use and what size leader? Any info would be great.

I use 80lb TUF line with a 30" inch 140# single strand leader with a 275# snap. Some use a coated 7 strand leader which may be a little easier on the fish if they roll up in the leader. If trolling rocks as I do check your leader and line often for nicks and frays. Good luck trolling.

Brian,
I probably tend to be a bit lighter in my tackle then most. I use 50# Power Pro for line, I like the lighter stuff to get depth on my baits. I make a seven stran, uncoated leader from 60# test. The length of my trolling leaders run 3 to 4 feet. On the flip side of that, I use pretty heavy rods compared to most. I have always believed that you have to get hooks into the fish before you can land them. My drag settings are crusial with this set up.

Hope it helps.

Baitmaster
It really all depends on if you want your jake to ride shallower or deeper. I myself use 50 pound tuffline and am thinking about switching to 80 pound just because it is thicker. If you want to make the jake ride shallower use thick line like 80 pound tuff. The 50 pound tuff since its a little thinner it will make it ride deeper. I would choose to go shallower with the jake becuase when your trolling in them shallow area's you won't pick up near as many weeds with the thicker lines. By the way I caught my first muskie trolling a jake[:)] Caught it trolling by a weedbed, must of been searching for some baitfish[]

I like to use 80lb whiplash and a 208 lb single strand leader with ball bearing swivels and no snap. No matter what kind of snap it is, it can easily break after being opened a few times. I use a split ring instead, and there are only two brands of split rings that I know of that will not break, bucher and wolverine.

I have run them successfully on 80 Power Pro but prefer 45 pound Musky Master dacron. The dacron keeps them up higher in the water column, and is more effective for ultra short-line trolling. I run 3 foot single strand stainless leaders that are about 150 pounds test.
