I was wondering the advantages of a glass rod and when it's best suited for what application, trolling and casting what baits that there best for.
Thanks

Fiberglass rods for trolling. You can use graphite but it has less forgiveness than fiberglass and may shatter in
cold weather especially when there is huge jar of the rod when the musky hits.

Fiberglass rods are usually heavier than graphite and therefore they seem to be best suited for rod holders
or late fall\colder temps. The newer fiberglass rods are a lot better than they use to be.

Good info in above post.

I still use glass for trolling and sucker rigs but that's it. I haven't had a glass musky casting rod in many years.

St. Croix makes a nice high-end glass line. I use Diawa Heartland series for trolling. For live bait I've found the heavier Catfish rods to work well.

Hope this helps a little.

I'm also wondering what models you use, I hear the catmaxx from basspro are good, but I don't know anyone personally who uses them. Thanks for the info.

I have been using a couple of the catmax rods and both of them have lost inserts in the line guides.
