I have caught fish in 3ft of water on Baby DR's. Rip the rod tip up very violently and get it to walk the dog right over the weeds.

You can take a hacksaw and cut off the first 3/8" off the lip to make it square(bluntnose) and that bait will run about that 4` depth.It increases the wobble very nicely too!

Hi!

Yes, you can modify the lips to make them run shallower, and my friend and excellent musky angler Tom Gelb has done this successfully even on the large Depthraiders. The hacksaw works, and another way to do this is with a disc sander. You simply need to make sure you grind down the lip evenly! Also, you might go thru a lure or two until you find the magic spot! Another effective way to modify the running depth on Baby DR's (make them more bouyant) is to go to a lighter hook. This makes a big difference in the weight of the lure, believe it or not, and will help you run shallower. However, the obvious risk at hand here is a big fish has a better chance of straightening out the hooks during the battle. Good luck!

The Baby Jointed Depth Raider is a great lure you can crank or twitch. Twitching slowly you can work it just below the surface. Joe Bucher just discussed swapping lighter hooks and split rings on the straight model Depth Raider, and then showed on his show how he works it thru slop, the big lip keeing weeds off the hooks!
