Where are the muskies in this lake?????????????????? Did they all escape out over the dam over that b.s. fence that tries to contain them!!! This is really a mickey mouse way of stopping such a powerful predator!!! Anyways i was just there and saw one undersized muskie in a bay. Has anyone tried this year on that Lake also, i would be interested to hear anything?

well lets think about the pressure and a possible over abundance of shad and other bait fish in this lake. Though it is true I personally have seen musky over that dam(or the "slide of death" as i like to call it) and have often wondered why it hasn't been upgraded. State funding? If shabbona is going to proclaim #1 musky spot in IL perhaps they should consider trying to keep more musky in the lake rather than down a creek. good luck anyway

Another reason why summer fishing can be bad is water temp and water flow. This lake can thermocline at 10ft and a bit less meaning the fish have to live in the warmer water. You won't find really active fish in warm water with less than desirable oxygen.

I don't understand why the fish have to live in the warmer water? Don't muskie prefer cooler temps? I thought thats why you can find more in northern lakes. How can you find the thermal cline in a lake? Wouldn't the few creeks that run into it bring in more oxygen also?

Shabby can be tough at times, the fish hide in the deep trees and you can't get at them.
There is also a TON of water and cover in the no-motor zone for them to dig in and hide.
I troll this lake a lot and you can go at it for 5-6 hours with no luck and then wam 3 fish.

Esox man, basically if there is no water going over the dam, there is very little water flow. This is fairly typical in the summer for il lakes. Easiest way to look for the thermocline is to look on your electronics and see where the fish are at. In the summer alot of fish will be as deep as they can be, below that there is not enough oxygen.
