Location: New Baden IL		Hey guys,
Just got back from the Georgian Bay, Moon River area.
First of all, it is some of the most incredible looking water I've ever seen, tons of really "FISHY" looking water...and a reputation second to almost none
Now for the hard part: We went nearly fishless!
My buddy Steve caught a thick 44" the first night out, then we had a SKUNK in the boat for the next 4 days!
We couldn't even buy a follow!
We had Jody Mills on Sunday, and you talk about a Guide who will work his butt off for you!!!
We met him at the dock at 7:00 sharp, and headed out. We fished incredible looking spot after spot...those sleeper spots with cabbage in 12-15' of water topping out 1' below the surface with 50, 60, 70 feet of water within one cast length from them,
Rock reefs, saddles, points, you name it, we fished it! Casting, Trolling, begging, pleading, praying....you get the picture
At 1:30, we were pretty spent, super hot, steaming weather.
Jody says "lets take a break till 3:00 then fish till 10".
I was stunned. We just fished like mad men all day without even a follow and he signs on for 7 more hours of torture!
Anyway here's my theory on why we missed the boat:
I think the fish up there spend the majority of thier time out in the vast deep clear water, chasing all the baitfish they can handle.
We were just too late.
I wonder how fast they leave their spawning areas, and how far back out they go?
Anybody else been up there and struck out like we did?
I wish I could get those lost days back and use them up in late fall.

You will catch more in the summer than fall. Problem with Georgian Bay is if you fish it one week a year you should hire a guide for the entire week (guide will be on the hot pattern). Jody is the best in the area.

My wife and I have had the pleasure of fishing with Jodi on 2 different occasions ( a total 5 days in the boat). My wife has boated a 42" , a 44" and a 47.5". Jodi's ever evolving milk run is amazing. I think that his strategy is very calculated, as you described...fish proven or potential big fish spots. All you have to do is look at his web site,http://www.muskyhunter.com/directory/listings/millsguideservice.htm, and see that his strategy pays dividends.

As you point, out the vast Moon River Basin of Georgian Bay has to be seen to be truly appreciated. Not only does it have classic big musky spots, it has the proven genetics that make it one of only a handful of truly potential World Record waters. Nobody knows the Moon like Jodi. And as you mentioned, when you book Jodi, he will fish you 8 hours, he will fish you 24 hours, the price remains the same. But when you decide to fish the Moon you need to adjust your expectations. There are probably 100s of musky waters that offer the opportunity to have multipe follows and multiple fish days. The Moon is generally not one of them.

Fishing the Moon with Jodi is an awsome experience. Canadian sheild, sheer cliffs, isolated cabbage surrounded by 80 ft of water, winds that can move the water level in the Moon by inches in a day, a guide that puts you on spot after spot with always the potential for a serious heavey (maybe even a world record)! And, the occassional fat 44"! (pic of my wife's 44" enclosed).

You my freind, did not strike out.

Just the inspiration I need as I'm on the way out the door to shred a new zone that tops out at 35' and visibility to 27'.
