| anyone have any experience using a Shimano spinning reel for muskie?
i'm considering getting a Spirex or Sedona as a spare for when i have someone in the boat who's not familiar with using a baitcaster. also thought it might be good for throwing spinners/bucktails?

Location: Chicago, Beverly | I have caught 4 or 5 on shimano spinning reels and missed one pig. I was using 2000 or 2500 sized reels. They held up fine, though they were a little small for the pig that I lost.... If you go with a 4000 size shimano that might be a little better. |

Location: oswego, il | I have two spirex reels for bass and panfishing and they are great. Between the two they have probably caught over 400 fish. I would say though, if you plan on getting one for twitching or any type of erratic retrieve, get the sedona. It has the super stopper for instant anti reverse and the spirex does not. |

Location: Wauwatosa, WI | I have a stradic 4000 with 30lb power pro I use for 20lb+ salmon and I have often thought of the same thing, but my rod is 9' st croix avid wild river and I don't think you can get a good hook set. Too much give at the tip of the rod. But what do I know.

Location: ft wayne, IN | i HAVE USED SHIMANO SPINNERS FOR YEARS AND ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM----4000 SERIES FOR CASTING, 5000 & UP FOR TROLLING. i PREFER THE STELLA BUT THE STRADIC IS A FINE CHOICE. THE OLDER SUSTAINS DIDN'T HOLD UP AS WELL. I UNDERSTAND BOTH DAIWA AND OKUMA MAKE A MIGHTY FINE SPINNER AS WELL. I HAVE BEEN USING THE SHIMANO BAITRUNNER FOR A FEW WEEKS NOW AND LIKE IT VERY MUCH FOR LIVE BAIT AND TROLLING BUT I DON'T THINK IT WOULD CAST WELL (THE HANDLE IS TOO SMALL). THE STELLA HAS NEVER LET ME DOWN! |
