Whatever you do don't share the article to anything including Facebook. There's an ambulance chasing Canadian attorney group who delights in hitting small outfits like ours and individuals for copyright violations and fines up to a couple grand. These dickwads cost us $900.

Really well written editorial

Tremendous coup to get such a niche topic in a national paper and basically on the desk of the Minister of Natural Resources in Toronto without having to go through various other channels to get it there. Obviously I especially like the wording "regulatory action." You can bet there will be policy folks tasked by deputies to dig into the subject further to ensure the minister can be prepared with a brief. Momentum...

No Worries. Great article, just making sure no one pastes the piece anywhere. The link is fine!

Just so I understand, posting a link to a story is fine. But to copy the article and post is not, even if attribution is provided? Is the same true for posting a portion of an article, like a quote, with an attribution?

Said attorneys and this publication work together. OFM's article folks republished an article by these guys and this rabid attorney group attacked. After some posturing and lots of threats from those ambulance chasers, we paid $900 for 'copyright infringement'.

Full attribution was given, and we expressed no profit was made or in fact any money at all, and they basically said pay up or go to court, even though the purpose of the piece was educational and informational. Goes to show that the copyright laws can be inpenetrable. Have to have express written approval from publisher, author, and maybe photographer for any images. If the answer to that question on any three accounts is no, you are taking a chance.

OFM is copyrighted as well. MANY people have disregarded that, and we've never even flinched. Who knew we could hire this attorney group and make a bunch of money?

Thanks Steve. I know in the past I have posted a quote from a newspaper article (about a town's ordinance on wake boats for example) and while I acknowledged the source, guess that could cause a problem.
