Location: Purcellville, VA | Can anyone give me some ideas on baits and the colors? I am planning my first Musky trip to Lake of the Woods the last week of July this year, and wanted to get started with purchasing tackle now. We will be staying at Witch Bay camp, northern part of the lake. I was told that the musky fishing should be hot at that time of year there, can anyone confirm that?

| Bring a Pacemaker (Black/Orng) and Red Llungen Tail for sure, I caught a 51"er last year 2nd week of July on the Pacemaker. also any color suick will bet you bit as well. Good luck and bring some fly spray!! |

| Try muskies 101.com, Ty Sennete makes these and he will give you a quick response if you post on there board. I forgot he does make 2 diff sizes and I seem to have better luck with the Large Pacemaker. If you have trouble call me.

Location: Appleton, WI | Fish should be moving pretty well on topwater and hair. If you want to put fish in the boat, and get off the shneid throw around bucktails in black and silver. We usually do pretty well with Mepps Magnums and Blue Fox Vibrax. The tandem tails placed on the Mepps Magnums or any other bucktail is a good bet. Black and Orange, Black and Flame Blade(Orange and Chartruese), Black and Chartruese,Black and Silver, or Firetiger combination should be a good start.(do you see a pattern here). Jackpots, Undertakers and Topraiders are also a good bet for topwater. You're tail prop topwaters will be better for higher hooking percentage topwater baits. But be prepared to miss a few fish on topwater. You'll win some and than you'll lose some. Just make sure you feel the fish or at least see the bait disappear. Keep the rod tip low to the water. That way if you blow a hookset the bait will scoot forward along the water and stay within the strikezone of the fish. It also keeps the bait from sailing back at you or your buddy. Once contact is made, sweep hard up and keep steady pressure.
Chartruese, Blacks, Silvers,Oranges and Firetiger are all good colors. Don't get hung up on color too much. Lure placement and fish location is the real key. You'll be surprise by how many fish will hold up in skinny water.
