Posts: 7123 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Leaving to chase some baby muskies up in Sioux Lookout, ON. later this week and have a GLoomis missing the O-ring in a guide. I was lazy and never brought it into the repair shop in time, but I would like to have this rod in the arsenal. Anyone have any ideas for a quick fix to the guide? It's the 3rd one down from the tip, and without the inner O-ring, the metal will scrape the cat poo out of any line that goes through there. Thanks in advance!

Posts: 484 Location: St. Louis, MO., Marco Is., FL, Nestor Falls, ON | Slmr: You might try running a bead of Crazy Glue Jell around the inside of the ring. It will set up hard...and fast. Should wear reasonably well. You can always take the tube with you in the boat and do a quick fix. It always amazes me how many uses this stuff has. I wouldn't worry too much about line fraying on the third ring. It's primary duty is alignment, not load bearing like the tip. You could probably even use silicone on the inside of the ring. Good luck on the fishing trip. The weather has cooled down in the last few days and fishing should improve along with the temps.

Posts: 7123 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Thanks a ton! I've done that before, and dont know why I didnt think of it this time! Off to get super glue at lunch, and then apply a bunch of coats between now and Thursday morning when I leave! Temps are dropping like a stone up north, supposed to be 81 today, and high 60s lower 70s when I'm there. Might slow the fish attitude down, and thinking that might speed their weed-to-rock migration. Lake is only 5,000 acres, have 4 days on it....will probably figure out the pattern just before I leave!

Posts: 1294 Location: Stevens Point, Wi. | I don't think I would risk having any chance of line failure. For a quick, temporary fix, just remove that guide by cutting thru the wrap with a razor blade. I've had to do that several times and with a good quality rod with many eyes it doesn't affect the rod efficiency too much.

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | run by a rod shop and just get a quick temp fix with a new guide. Super glue or silicone will wear thru in a heartbeat with a fish on the other end. It will cast ok but dont bend the rod. If there is no time for a fix just skip that guide and leave a flat spot in your rod and lighten up a tad on the drag.

Posts: 4266 | You dumb ass! If you would have told me about it I could have fixed it for you in a matter of minutes. Replacing guides is not hard. Getting them to look pretty is the hard part. Stop here on your way and I'll do it for you then. I've got guides, I've got thread......Done. Beav
