I have an older Panther Lift 35LE on my Ranger for my kicker. After winter storage it won't raise the motor. I push the switch at my console and it only makes a sound in the "down" position.
Trouble Shooting I have Done:
-The switch works. I swapped the wires for the up/down and then the "up" worked but again it was swapped so the mount wanted to drop the motor.
-The relay is mounted external, near the battery but I bypassed it with a 12V jumper and the down makes a sound to lower the motor but the "up" doesn't make a sound.

Any advice?
Things I have been told to try and will tonight/soon:
-Crack the valve on the end of the hydraulic cylinder. May have air in it.
-Use the jumper to put 12V directly to the cylinder (both black/red) to see if something in the wiring to the cylinder went bad.

If all of this fails I may need to remove the cylinder and inspect but I am not sure what to look for. Maybe fill/add fluid or take to a shop for repair but wanted to see if I could fix this myself.
Thanks,
Paul

Sounds like water intrusion/rust in the screw shaft/motor. As long as the shaft isnt broke you might be able to break it loose somehow. Dont think the little motor has enough power to do it so youll have to find another method. Good luck.

If it's the same as the one on my boat it is not hydraulic. Mine has an electric motor and a screw with roller bearing clutch inside of it that does not allow the motor to continue moving once it hits the limits, hard to explain. I would check the power at motor, mine has a quick disconnect, You should see 12 volts up and -12 down.

If you have good power either the motor is bad in one direction or if I had to guess the motor is in the down position and the screw and clutch are rusted together. Going down the clutch would not engage and allow the motor spin but going up it is stuck and will not move. This is why you can hear the motor working going down but not up. Maybe try some penetrating oil in the vent tube and work the screw back and forth. If it breaks loose make sure to pack if full of good marine grease afterwards.

I guess you are supposed to fog the vent line before storage. I found this out after my clutch got rusty and broke. Panther would not service or replace parts and wanted me to buy an entire actuator assembly. I was able to take mine apart and replace the ball bearings, been working fine for 3 years but is sounds like a coffee grinder. To be fair I thought it was not repairable and wasn't careful taking it apart. I'm not that far away and still have lots of extra ball bearing if your are up for an repair adventure.

Thanks for the tips guys. I will test the voltage at that disconnect and see if its a power issue.

Sounds like its more likely the rust issue. Hopefully some penetrating oil or similar will do the trick!

Make sure to use something good like PB blaster. I'd recommend spraying it down once a day for a couple days before trying to break it loose. If it does break loose may sure to working it up and down slowly in steps. In other words have the shaft rotate up a little bit and than go back down, than go up again but a little bit higher than back down, continue this tell you are all the way up. Think of it like cutting a thread and breaking off a chip, same concept but with rust. I also sent you PM. Good luck!
