| I have a Mercury 90hp 4 stroke on my 618. The stainless that came with it is a 16 pitch and was perfect until a prop shop took material off of it without replacing the material. Now it over-revs and the prop is basically a paper wight in my eyes. Anyone else have a similar setup? What do you run for a prop? The Mercury website says to get the same prop but they say 17. I have a lead on the same prop but an 18 pitch. Would this be a bad move? Thoughts? |

| Call Ricky at Brainerd Props, he has more knowledge about boat-prop combinations than anyone I know. Is your Mercury an Oprtimax or a newer 4-stroke? Command Thrust gear case? Most guys running 618's find a 15-17P prop works best for them. |

If the 16" pitch was perfect, then buy a new 16" just like it.
And if a 16 was perfect an 18" would be a dog, taking forever to plane. |

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya!!
I'd be interested in finding out more about how your rig is performing now. Being a tiller motor, I'd be wondering about how high your RPMs get to when lightly loaded, and what bolt-hole your motor is mounted on the transom. Depending on those circumstances, there might be room to do some things and get more out of the rig with the 17 or possibly the 18 pitch.

| Take the prop back to the shop and have them cup it for you this should increase top end and lower the rpm. Definitely worth a try if you consider the prop useless |
