I have some lures with the round rubber skirt material that really work well for me but I'm frustrated by the short life of this medium. I get a couple years out of them and then the rubber skirt starts to get "funky" - first clumping together and then eventually just melting into a sort-of goo. I think it's some sort of chemical reaction but can't figure out why water and rubber don't play well together. I put my lures away dry and store them separately in my basement where it's cool and dry. Is there anything that can be done to lengthen the life of this rubber skirt material? (For reference, the material I'm referring to is on page 23 in this catalog: http://www.mooreslures.com/PartsCatalog/Catalog.html#24)

Thanks,

Dave

WD40 can help if it's a little funky.

Is it the rubber skirt or the silicone skirt? I've had very few problems with silicone skirts and if that's not what you're using you should find it to be a better material.

you can try talcum powder after they are dry, it washes off after a few casts, works well on the rubber legs on my frogs for bass

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm not sure if mine are rubber or silicone. I suspect rubber because once they start to go, they just melt into an ugly liquid-y mess. Not sure how well wd40 and rubber would play but it might be worth a short. If it doesn't work I'm not out anything as i'll have to discard the skirting material anyway.

Wd and rubber play just fine. Used it for years on the round rubber skirts before silicone skirts were available.
