Location: Racine, Wi | Does anybody have a problem with the cork getting chewed up by the sides of the rod holders. I've been noticing that my foregrips are rubbing on the outsides of the rod holders. Only when I have the tips in the water. Which is esential for Southern Wisconsin. Water sports + weeds= messy trolling. Any solution for this would be greatly appreciated.

Location: Eastern Ontario | You need to reverse you rod holders. What I mean is take out the screw that you use to adjust the angle as well as the screw at the other end of the clamps and switch them so that the rod holder will be closer to the water side of the holder. That way when you angle your rod in the water you are passed the parts that damages your rods corks. I hope this helps. |

Location: Holly, MI | Down easters are designed for trolling rods for sure and not for casting rods. The trolling rods usually have foam grips of a larger diameter and fit nice and snug in the holder. Also a casting rod has the trigger under the reel that gets in the way on a down easter so you have to put the reel behind or in front of the holder. A "trolling" rod has no trigger and the reel fits securly right in the holder as it should.
I added "rod wrap" to a couple of my rods that I cast and troll with. This does a couple of things..It protects the cork from getting chewed up in holders and I like the feel of it in my casting hand. I found it at Bass Pro Shops. It wraps on like a tennis racquet handle would. It eases fatigue on a long day casting by adding a slight bit of diameter and it doesnt get the dried out, slick, hard feel cork can get so you can relax your grip a little. It was cheap and I'm glad I bought it. |

Location: Kawartha Lakes, Ontario | If I come across a rod that won't fit into a down-easter properly I wrap hockey tape around the cork or foam grip until it becomes thick enough. This not only makes for a better fit, but it will protect the cork. |

| you may protect the cork but that adhesive is tough to get off. I would never recommend the tape wrap for any rod I was going to cast with in the future. If it is a permanent troller, it would be fine though.
