Weekend trips are the closest 135-162 miles
With a few 270-308 mile trip (spring-fall) throw in a couple 850 mile trips during the year . All adds up to allot of gas ,but can't take it with you and can't catchum at home. All miles are one way ,Gotta get out of IL !!!
So true IL sucks! It's an hour and a half to either of the three closest lakes for me down here and I have made three trips to one that is three hours away this year so far. Its about 18 hrs to LOW for me which i only get to go once a year. I would fish a whole lot more if I had a lake 20 minutes away, hell i'd be fishing now...

| I have about half a dozen that are 45 minutes to an hour a way, give or take. Two hours to small, but decent water. Haven't gotten out much this year, but hit that lake almost every week last year. Six hours to real water - Chautauqua. |

Location: Hugo, MN | I have 3 fantastic metro waters between 2 and 8 miles from my driveway. Living up north is overrated. You can make a FAR better wage in the Twin Cities, and then spend that extra money on gas if you feel like going up north. Or, just learn your local waters and catch some real nice fish close to home. |

| 1 hour to the Great Falls system to the south of me (50 mi)
1.5 hours to Melton Hill to the east (95 mi)
18 hours to the Bemidji area (1160 mi)
23 hours to the Northwest Angle (1300 mi)
I really don't mind the time behind the wheel, but the gas prices and consumption to haul a boat with a 4x4 V-8 pretty much kills most of my fishing opportunities. Consequently, I have had much less time on the water the past couple years here, but graduation comes in May and Northern MN will be much closer to me next summer.

I think I have the lead since I travel 2100 miles from Marco Island, FL to Nestor Falls, ON. But my son flies in from Patagonia, Argentina to fish LOTW with me. That has to be the farthest...about 7,000 air miles.
This post is hilarious.
Marco Island and Patagonia are world class (fly) fishing destinations and you guys are flying away from them to come muskie fishing. We fishermen are seriously messed up dudes. |

Location: Ames, Iowa | 402 miles to our place at Leech from home. Just got back about 3 hours ago. It's only worth it during 4 day weekends (I took Friday and Monday off) or the 2 week trip and the one week trip during the summer, plus other long weekends. This was likely my last trip up there for the year as the wife and her sister will close in October. My remaining trips will be to West Lake Okoboji (Shaley a little advice please).
As far as telling the wife we'll be moving- my advice is for you young guys to try to find a job up north you can live with or get in to a career where you can find a job up north. Do that before you get settled with a home and a woman. I'm a teacher and it'd be nice to have the kind of job where you get out the door and stop thinking about the job- I'd do alot more fishing if I had that. It sure would be great to work and live 4 hours closer to the cabin, but then we worry it wouldn't be so special. In 9 years, God willing, the kids will be out of the house, I'll retire, and Tammy and I will be up there for 6 months out of the year, spending winters in Iowa. |

Any decent lake- 2 hours.
Hoping this changes within the next year when I'm out of college and can look for a job in WI or MN... |

| I have to travel roughly 50 min for the closest lake, and 1 hr 15 min or so for the furthest that ill travel to on a weekly basis. The time is calculated 1 way
Not counting the 900 miles to canada

| Local flowage is 20 minute drive from home, but we have a place on the chip. river just a couple minute boat ride to lake holcombe. 1 hour and 40 minute to our place on the chip. From there there are several lakes within a 15 minute drive. Im not feeling bad about my drive seeing how far some of you are going. |

Actually, I'll be down in Patagonia fishing Nahuel Huapi for trucha (trout) in November. I fish offshore and nearshore in Marco from late October to sometime in May, minus the trip to visit the son in Argentina. Life is good!! Thank goodness I didn't get what I deserve in life. LOL I've been fishing LOTW for muskies since 1953 and my son made his first trip there as a child in 1978. My father started me and I started my son. Hopefully, one of his son's will get the muskie fever. It's a family tradition. |

| I drive almost every weekend 90 miles to my lake home. cost 60 just in gas to get there. then there is the food. then the gas for the boat. then everything else. But to me when I hook into the ski.............. IT'S ALL WORTH IT!!!
