Land of 10,000 lakes could become Land of restricted waters. Make no mistake about it that the DNR has been part of the planning on this. Sure the waters belong to the public but the access to the city or the state.... Yet where did the money come from to build the access and add a blacktop and the dock. How far will this mind set go? Well in Europe it is common practice to file for a permit to be able to fish a particular water. In some places there is a fee associated with it. If we sit by quietly while the rights are taken away, we will in fact loose our rights. The more I see from our new MN DNR commissioner the less faith I have in this guy. Which leads to Gov. Dayton who appointed him.

Couldn't have stated it better. No different than all the gun regulations being tossed atound lately. Gotta fight to keep what you have, or someday it will all dissappear and you wont notice till it is too late...

Watch out for black helicopters, I heard them flying toward Duluth.

Or maybe think about these things before filling out your ballot....if you even did vote.

Any word yet on UT's stream access/ownership laws, Pointer?
The judge is supposed to be ruling on that this week, isn't he?

I haven't heard. If I was a betting man I'd guess the anglers will likely lose out. Property and water rights run deep here. It was a pretty surprising ruling when the anglers won and it didn't last very long either.

I don't follow the issue a ton as my section doesn't have a lot to do with the issue.

Minnesota is a great destination, I really enjoy my travels there. Unfortunately many in the leadership positions of the state prefer the European model of governance. IMHO

Thanks for the response. I'll take invasive sniffing dogs and 10pm to 6am landing closures over the public's loss of riverbeds to the landowners any day.

O man this is nuts . I cant understand this i fish this lake alot and have never heard of crazy #*#* like this. I buy food every time i come at the consetion stand atleast 20 dollars worth. And yea they dont look my boat over at all not the way it should be. Then you have to walk like a mile to find a parking spot. why did i buy a fishing licence to fish on minnesota lakes to fish when they say. someone hasto put a stop to this chaining the lakes up. It realy bums me out that this is like this what the hell?

Good points. Having lived out here long enough and with little interest in fishing trout I hadn't really considered how awesome the water laws in the Midwest are.

I still disagree with launch closures and believe that there is a middle ground somewhere.

I hope they have the SAFETY angle figured out???? I grew up ,in south MPL's and went to MPL's south high school Ive spent hundreds of hours on these lakes and I have seen people get in trouble has far has THINKING they can swim across the lake or swamping their canoes or sail boards at night only to have the fire dept or State patrol called with thier rescue boats to launch and to go assist,,,,Im wondering whos gonna open these cables???? do ALL emergency agencys have a master key or do they have to wait around till someone shows up????

Is this going to cause a big problem for the metro muskie tournament? I am entering it for the first time this year and I am worried about having a huge line waiting to get on the lake because of inspections. Does this lake draw a lot of participants for the tourney?

The inspectors get off their lawnchair, ask you a couple questions, and then sit back on the lawn chair. Maybe 2-3 minute process

I just confirmed with the Mpls Park Board that chains are up until 6:00 am each morning. Chains go back up at 10:00. sorry night fishing muskie guides... There will be invasive species inspectors there as well from 6:00 am - 9:00 pm.

I know we all enjoy muskie fishing but seriously get over it, it's not worth getting in trouble with the law over. If you can't get over it, figure out a way to legally fight back and not make the community as a whole look like a bunch of troublemakers.

If there was even $1 of state money that went into these landings, I hope they get cut.

Bolt cutters will be a new must have muskie tool.
I assume the Minneapolis PD will be to busy running red lights and killing motorcyclists to be worried about people getting out fishing early.

I wonder how many times it takes the lock getting cut before they shut the ramp down permanently?

What a waste of money. And how about public input before implementing policy?
