James is spot on in his reel seat assessment. They have a cult following (me included), but the majority seem to favor the traditional seats.

Jeremy what are the odds that James sends you some of these new blanks to build on?

LOL Jeremy with #1 for getting the new 96, 10 and 106 blanks. He is building me a few right now for the show season. Can't wait to see them. I asked Jeremy to really make them up to be really cool!

http://tuscaroratackle.com/rods/

He should have them at all the shows he will attend. If he has them left by Minnesota I will pick them up So don't buy them! ha ha Technically they are not for sale but I told him to sell them if anyone wanted one. LOL I have no time to fish...

Working on two 10'6" builds right now. Can't wait to try them out. I'll post pics when they're ready.

What is the length from rod tip to reel seat?

The handles are 18" long and the reel seat is about 6" in length so take the length of rod you are looking at and subtract 24" from the total length and that is the length to the tip form top of the reel seat.

For storage, all TI telescopic rods telescope in 18" for transportation and storage. thanks

Finally was able to test out my rods. I built these on the 10'6" XH blanks. I used a split grip/surf rod handle design with a 22" butt section (from rod butt to rear of reel seat.) I've only used them for a few hours but my casting distance is better than ever and like others have mentioned the figure 8's are great. So far I'm very impressed.

James, how does the 9'6" XH tip compare to the 9'6" XH Compre? Is it just as stiff/fast? Looking for a go to rod for double 8's and small med-large cranks. I like a faster tip for a general purpose rod. I use my St.Croix Big Dawg for my larger applications like Double 10's, large cranks/Jerks etc...

Sorry but I have not held one of the 9'6" XH Compre rods yet. The new TI long tele rods are very very close in action to the current MH, XH and XXH actions on the current TI rods. We really tried to get those matched up well so everyone who uses the TI rods will know exactly what they are getting but of course just longer... From the tip down these are really close and then the butt end of the blanks was build onto to make them longer. We did have to reinforce and use different material to make the blanks stronger as the longer you go it exponential for the torque on the rod. So far so good If you go to a musky show and want to take a look at my rods feel free to stop by the booth.

I can't say enough good things about the 10'6" xxh!! It continues to shine and perform far greater than I expected. Lately I've been throwing big swim baits with it and it bombs them way out allowing me to cover a ton of water in a short period of time with the TranX pg. I stuck another one in the figure eight last night that was way out on the turn of a huge eight that just isn't possible with a shorter rod. Again, a great product at a great price!! I'll try to post some pictures of the ones I've built soon...

Just remember to not go too deep on a fig 8 Just had a customer break a tip on his new 10'6". He forgot how long the rod was and hit bottom in about 7'-8' of water. What a rod!

Ha! That would suck! I did hit a fish late summer when the water was green from algae on a deep figure 8.... That sucked too!!

Ha! And I thought I was the only one to smash into a Muskie with my rod. Anyway can anyone tell me if storing my rods in the boat in the cold of winter will damage them in anyway?

Storage in the cold is a non issue for your rod. The only concern I would have is mice chewing on your handle if they are in your area. I have seen this happe to a few guys.

I put mine inside in the winter. I leave them in the boat until season is over though. I'm not sure if going from a heated shop to the cold and back is good for the blank material with respect to expansion and contraction, especially when applying the load of a pounder or other big bait that is typical of fall fishing. Maybe I'm overthinking it...

Going from cold to hot could cause issues if the blank is fully extended, I would retract the blank after use in the cold, or you may not be able to retract it again till you get it down to the temp it was at previously.

Nice! What size reel seats did you finally get to fit the blanks? I was surprised how big the Fuji reel seats were to fit them Almost needed some saltwater reel seats! ha ha

I ended up using a size 22 and had to ream them a little. There's actually a little spot on the blanks ahead of the seat that's bigger around than where the seat is mounted... I found that a little odd. What seats do you use?

The TI production XXH rods use a Fuji size 22. I am having Tuscarora tackle build me one with an aluminum guide. That one will be interesting...
