Location: MN | I am glad these guys took action. I have heard the Canadian game and fish authorities do not mess around. Hopefully they give this guy what he deserves. muskie-don58 - 9/7/2014 6:52 AM We need to arm ourselves with information that proves a fishery with a healthy muskie population is a healthier fishery of all species including the "favorites". Is this not true ? When I hear walleye guys share their dislike for the "walleye eating musky" I point out that the a lot of the best walleye fisheries in Minnesota contain muskies: LOTW, Leech, Winnie, St Louis River, Vermillion, Cass, Mille Lacs, Detroit Lakes...the list goes on. I am guessing you could compile a similar list for other states and Canada. Most of these lakes are also excellent for big pannies, bass and/or pike. There are scientific studies that show data that Muskie do not have a major effect on other fish populations but pointing out this simple fact seems to be more productive in getting them to second guess their viewpoint than referencing a study.

Posts: 246 Location: Grand Marais, MN | I Really like the disgruntled looking still photo of that guy at the end I hear the musky eat panfish/perch/walleye population to extinction argument all the time, strangely enough from anglers who cant find fish/ fished their water to death for 40 years and need something else to blame.

Posts: 8782 | "We used to go out on Friday and catch 50 walleyes for our Friday night fish fry. Now we're lucky to get 20. The muskies are eating them all!" I told a guy this once: "They usually eat suckers, redhorse, bullheads, and all the other fish that eat walleye eggs. Even if they do eat the occasional walleye, a musky only eats a fish every couple days. You guys wipe out more walleyes in a weekend than a musky will eat in it's entire life." But then you can't tell people like this anything. They heard once from cletus in the bar. That's all it takes.

Posts: 1529 | the argument of fish eating other fish. if one was to look at biological factors and invasive species then they could afford a formed opinion. . st clairs sight feeders enjoyed a population increase. at the zebra mussel invasion most of us moved our charteboats to l.erie. truthfully we never cracked the new code. theres lots of walleyes/perct etc in st clair. re-learn how to fish and theres lots for a meal..a statement in the area paper .ive known eddy 40 years. he had a bad day. the eddy I saw in the video clubbing musky is a poacher. . either her standards are very low or she don't know this eddy. the guy that sells walleyes. snares rabbits illegally.. themnr in Ontario have first prioritized this clubbing because sportsmen care on there lakes/outdoors.

Posts: 719 | Here is the problem...I am looking at what he did. Killed (kept) an undersized musky. He then let it spoil. Unless they have him for something else, I don't think that amounts to anything more than a fine of some sort. He'll get off easy is my prediction...sad to say.

Posts: 8782 | I watched about 10 seconds of it and I thought: "Aw, SHUT UP, you asshat!!" Aw... now he's "sorry"... He's "sorry" because he got caught and now he's got a target on his backside. He's "sorry" because his lawyer told him he had better be. He's "sorry" because he was too stupid to predict the crapstorm he just brought on himself. If he had an ounce of sorry in him, he'd have thrown the fish back BEFORE he clubbed it. Oh well. He may as well walk around with a shirt that says "I'm a D-bag!" at this point. There's no excuse he can make now that's going to fix anything.

I know in some places the CO (usually Captain or LT) can recommend revocation.

It wasn't his boat from what I've heard. He's so full of crap when he claimed it was his first time doing that.

Posts: 458 | I heard that as well but if I lend you my car and you get caught committing a crime in it then the police may confiscate the car. I'm sure the guy that lent out the boat is regretting his decision.

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Here's the original thread. Protocol here is if the same topic is on the first page, one goes...because it makes no sense to have two active threads about exactly the same topic plugging up the board. If it's back a ways, then it may be news to some folks. I agree folks need to read more than the first couple threads, but some don't have the time....or inclination. That's understandably a little annoying to those who read most everything. What reel for Double Tens?
