| Makes you realize just how big a 50 lber really is. Word is that fish was just over 50lbs. Kind of puts all these 50 lb muskies you hear about on the boards in perspective, doesn't it? JS | |||

Posts: 502 Location: Lincoln UK | You mean that a lot are not 50lb fish, heavens above now why would anyone say a fish was bigger than it was? You are dead right there are an awful lot of supposed 50's that are to be frank nowhere even close, been a few lately from people who you would have thought better. The only way to know how much a fish weighs is to weigh them, very fast and easy if you have the right kit. The "it could have been a fifty" phrase is laughable in all but a very few cases and should be sneered at when used.

Posts: 8865 | Let's look at what it takes to get to that 50# mark: 50"x28.5" 52"x28" 53"x27.5" 55"x27" 57"x26.5"

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | I would guess has got to be close to 55x27..and a not just 27 at the fattest part...but a SOLID 27 throughout the body of the fish! This things is GROSS...

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | If the fish is the right length and girth, and someone says it's a 50, it's a 50. I sure wouldn't sneer at a 57X26.5. That Pike looks all of 50# to me, and if it isn't, it's sure big enough to get my attention.

Posts: 66 Location: Padova - Italy | rpieske - 3/22/2007 1:46 PM That looks like a guy that fishes with Luca Cattin from Italy. How about it Luca....are you out there? That guy was also in your boat when we meet with you in Sabaskong Bay in 2005, Bob! All I know is that fish was caught in the lake Maggiore, as someone correctly says here, while trolling a copy of my “Hairbug”, a big swimming jig that I showed to MuskieFirst friends some years ago. The fish bottomed out his 55 lbs scale and was released without taking a proper weight. This is what Carlo refer to my close friend, usual client and big pike expert Pippo “Mautenani”, also a guy you know well, that indicate him the spot where to fish. In my picture is Pippo in our more recent musky trip Bob. Next time you come here you have something to think in the middle of your cruises, my friend! There is always a seat for you in my boat, or Pippo’s Alumacraft pike/muskie rig, to try a chance to catch one of this monsters on the right spot with the same baits! I’ve travel around the world in search of big pike and some time ago I says to Gordy that world record pike could be here in Italy. My friend Pippo is another guy who firmly believe in this. Posts: 484 Location: St. Louis, MO., Marco Is., FL, Nestor Falls, ON | Luca: I thought that was he. I am proud to have had the chance to fish with all of you. I bow to the King of Pike fisherman. If/when I get back to Italy, I will definitely set aside time to fish with the best guide in Europe. Thanks for letting all of us know the details of this tremendous catch. I now believe that the new world record Pike swims in Italian waters and Luca or one of his friends will catch it. Thanks again.

Posts: 1023 Location: Lafayette, IN | Luca, Back when MuskyFIRST became a website I read many of your posts with great interest. In spite of all the fun and excitement I've enjoyed with our fine musky here in the states I'd give my left arm to become a one-armed pike fisherman in Europe! Those fish are unbelieveable. Thanks for your input on this website. Good luck this year. Best regards, Steve Johnson

Everyone here on the muskie forums appreciates that you posted a picture so we could share in your excitement over this fish. Here is my email address: [email protected] . But I think it was Placido Domingo not Pavoratti...or maybe both, along with Jose Carreras. I look forward to hearing from you.
