Anyone here ever make their own molds for swimbaits? I've been thinking of trying but I'm not really sure where to start. I saw a couple videos but it looks like the easy way to do it will leave a flat side to the top side of the shad body as it dries. How do they make molds that to give a shad body that 3D life like look?

It's the "one-piece" pour type molds that leave the "flat" side. You have to go a bit further into a two-piece mold that clamps together and where you then inject the melted plastic with a thing that while more heat resistant looks like a turkey baster. Then you unclamp the mold, trim the bait and you get what you want. Make sure you have proper ventilation or you might melt part of your brain too.

I'm new to the process, but IMO, the real art is in making the master to get that look. You can pour a 2-piece with RTV and then hand pour the plastisol. RTV will find and keep your detail. Not as slick as the injection process, but it works.

Zib thanks! Those videos are fantastic. Looks like I'll be busy making some shad bodies for a couple weeks.
