| Hey Guys,
motor ran fine, did some fishing now wont start. i turn the key and the bendix spins rarely and very slow when it does. i hooked jumper cables to the battery and straight to the starter. the bendix spun like crazy!! however it never engaged the fly wheel. to me it seems like a bad connection somewhere causing the key to not turn it like that. and something is wrong with the bendix causing it not to shoot up and engage the fly wheel. any thoughts??? it is the 1993 mercury 40 hp 2cycle.
Thanks ,
Nate |

Location: Land of the Musky | My bendix would not engage once. I took a look with the cover off and watched it. It was not rising (I think). So, I sprayed it down with some WD40 and worked on it for a while and it finally started to function correctly. My motor is a 60 Mariner and its a 92 I think so mine may not be setup like yours. Worth looking at. |

Location: WI | Had the same problem a few years ago. Turned out to be a bad cell in the battery. I found this out after getting the starter rebuilt & replacing the solenoid. Get your battery load tested 1st. Would've saved me over $100 if I had known.
