Location: Sun Prairie, Wisconsin | Does anyone know if the late model 681 boats with a sc setup are similar to the 2004-2008 618vs boats with an sc setup? I know the 681 boats had terrific hulls. Could I expect similar performance from the 618? yes, I do know the 618 boats were bigger... Any other comments on the 618vs would be appreciated.

Posts: 477 Location: Iowa | I've never been in a 618, but agree with Steve. I LOVED my 681VS, but a lot of that was because I could still get into pretty skinny water on the local river. Don't get me wrong, it handled some pretty good waves too, but my 690VS handles so much more. I could get longer rods in the 681 locker though. ONLY reason I got rid of the 681 is because I could NOt pass up the deal I found on the 690.

Posts: 144 | I have owned both and the 618vs (console version, not to be confused with the tiller model) is not really a better "big water" hull. The 618vs has a more of a flat, bass boat hull and the 681 is more of a deep-v. In my opinion the 681 has a superior rough water ride because of the deeper v. The 618 pounded me hard in the wind and got me soaked more than the 681. The 681, on the other hand, is very cramped on the inside. You wouldn't think the few inches difference in beam and length would be that big of a deal but it is when you fish with more than one person. The layout is the same. There are little things about both boats interiors that were good and bad. The rod locker on the 681 was more useful because there weren't any rod tubes. The rod tubes in the 618 locker actually made it harder to get the rods in and out, and you could fit more rods in the 681. The storage space is about the same except the battery compartment on the 618 is much bigger and easier to rig. the wire channels in the 618 are much bigger which made it easier to rig locators and accessories. The battery compartment was one of the biggest pains about the 681. Both are great inland or smaller water boats but if you fish big water all the time I think you would want something more like the 617, or 618 tiller. Edited by pete619 8/8/2012 2:34 AM
