| Can you charge a 24v system by only hooking up to one battery? How do you do it?

Location: Cedarburg, Wisconsin | Yes you can do it, but you need to disconnect the batteries in series, reconnect them in parallel, and then they are both chargeable at the same time with a 12V charger. Then you need to reconnect them in series again before you use them. Otherwise you can't do it. |

| You would use 2 banks of a charger- one bank for each of the batteries in the 24v system. This is why most guys will run a 3 or 4 bank charger, a bank for each of the trolling motor batteries (24v or 36v) and one for the starting battery. |

Location: Cedarburg, Wisconsin | Yeah, that's the beauty of an on board multi bank charger. Each bank is 12V but they are all isolated from each other so you can connect them to batteries in series to charge each battery to 12V no matter how many are in series. It's like having a seperate charger for each battery. You can also charge them with a 24V charger if you connect to the outside terminals (not where the batteries are connected to each other). But good luck finding a 24V charger with the current capabilities you need at a price you can afford. Also with a 24V charger you are charging them both equally which they may or may not need. If you have any 12V accessories attached to one of the series batteries it can bleed that battery down more than the other so they need different levels of maintenance. |
