I have trolled several times with my 200HO for 3-4 hour periods when it's rougher with no problems at all. I'd think the smaller ones would do fine.

I troll salmon 4-8 hr days. A 2006 Etec 200 hp never any mechanical issues. Last off season had 300 hour interval maintenance done. All readings were good. Not a single issue. Trolled more this season than ever. My one complaint is that I cant get the rpm which at idle are just a hair under 800. I cant get rpms to hold at 850,or 900. next step is just over 950. Which when your looking for that set speed, often 2.5- 2.8 mph gps its almost impossible unless your wind is just right. Its never an issue when Im muskie trolling but for salmon its a minor issue. Cant get it down to a walleye speed though either. that when the kicker is a must. BRP now makes a digital control so you can dial your rpms to exactly where you want them. To retro mine is about $1K. plus labor dont think its going to happen with this rig. Full disclosure, I did have injectors replaced in 2008, my first year/season with the boat. Motor had very low hours when I bought it. Perfect since then. Shop unable to pinpoint cause. Did very little trolling those first 6 months prior to the repair.

A friend has a 2007 40hp Etec with over 2000 hours on it. All he does is troll, and has only had to change the plugs maintenance wise. I have a 2008 150hp Etec with 1200 hours on it, and all I've done is change the plugs about every 300 hours. The motor will let you know when it's time to change... We both have the RPM's dialed down under 500 at idle, which helps slow things down a lot.

IMO they are great trolling rigs.
