Discussing reels is a never ending hot topic, and admit it,we love it. Both of these reels are very lookalike, so only the internals should decide if we buy one or the other.

A lot of guys are praising the Luna 300 over the 400B, but I really don't know why. To me the Calcutta appears to be more trouble free, as it's dual stopper beats the single IAR bearing in the Luna. At least thats my impression.

I have both. I prefer the Luna for smoothness, but the 400b seems a little tougher overall. The luna is smooth thou, much smoother than the 400b. There have been anti reverse issues with the luna but i haven't had any.

I would go with the 400b it is more reliable.had mine for 2 yrs and no problems had it servied by shimano and that all they had to do was clean it. Also own a luna 300 . Had it for 3 yrs it had to be sent in after each yr due to the anti reverse Goin out. Both good reels but shimano 400b is the choice for reliability.

I own 2 of each, got 3 years of heavy use out of the 400b's and they started getting clunky, attempted to repair myself, sent them to a repair shop, still clunky. The 300's I've been running for about 4 years now, replace the roller clutch every other year, both reels are good, my 400b's are trolling/sucker rod reels now.

My vote is for the Luna hands down.
