Location: So. Illinois | I just purchased a Diawa Saltist 20HA. I am getting ready to fill the spool with line. I seem to remember a recommendation on this site that it is not recommended that you completely fill the spool with line -- fill it to just over half capacity. Is this a good recommendation or should I jsut go ahead and max the spool out with line? I cannot remember the reasoning or find the thread. I appreciate any recommendations offered.

| I leave about 1/8" at the top of the spool on every reel. Has always worked for me. |

| if it's a levelwind, fill it like you would any other reel. i believe the problem was overfilling the spool to the point the line rubbed on the top of the levelwind guide and backlashed.
fill it like normal, you can always peel off a few feet if it hangs up, you'll know. |

Location: Minnesota | It's a lot easier to pull out a messy backlash if the reel isn't spooled to max capacity.
Of course, I never backlash, so it's not an issue for me. |

Location: Hopefully on the water | I would recommend more backing on it than normal. Otherwise it will take a lot of line |
