I've been strongly considering going to the lower manitou next year, and was wondering if anyone here has fished it. The 3 places I'm considering is Camp Manitou, Barker Bay, and Manitou Weather Station. For those that have fished it, is there a huge difference between the straights and say esox lake? I have fished troutwater before, so I know how tough it can be sometimes. The time frame I'm looking at would be around the 4th of July.

Great Trout, and Pike , fishing out of Camp Manitou. if your Looking for Muskie have Camp Manitou fly you into one of thier Lake X Cabins about 30 miles from thier resort . the best muskie fishing I have ever had all fish were from 30" to 45" and I caught a 32" walleye on a small Eddy bait. We fished close to the cabin and it was comon to see six muskies at one time around the boat. To find bigger Muskie you have to go to the north end of the lake and and upper Manitou. Marv.

I take it you've had no success in Esox Lake or the straights? As much as I'd like to do a fly in like that, I just don't think that would work into my budget.

troutwater,

The whole system is good in my opinion for Muskies, Esox is the first lake in the chain and we are the closest camp to it. Esox has tons of musky structure as well as bass structure. My biggest ever came out of esox and the biggest one reported by one of our guests was out of esox. We fish it quite a bit, especially if its a bit windy. You don't want to go out on the big lake if it's rough, it can get kind of wicked.
Camp Manitou is located in the middle of the manitou stretch, we can fish 17 miles of water before we even have to get into the big lake.
There are a few good spots in the stretch, as well as some good spots in on lower manitou itself in barker bay, glass bay, olson bay, the north end of lower once you enter the islands is good. Again, most the entire system is good. If you have any other questions, just email me at [email protected]

Whole system has decent fishing.

Camp Manitou is the closest to Esox Lake and is fairly protected from the weather.

Barker Bay has some good spots close by but you will need to run 5-10 miles north for lots of good spots closer together in protected waters. Depending on how big a boat you have you can limit the amount of big open water heading north by staying on the west side of the lake mostly.

Weather Station is closest to some really good water and closer to Mosher Bay and Upper Manitou and well protected. You will have to cross some big water to get to the resort however.

I've always stayed at Barker Bay and like it alot. Good people and good fishing.
