Subject: Startup tips for a newbie

Hi guys,

I wonder if any of you had some tips to a newbie on how to get started making my own baits.

Forexample can you recommend any websites/books that have guides how to make your own lures from scratch?

Furthermore what equipment is a must to have when starting up on making jerkbaits? If possible do you have any links to dealers which ships to Denmark?

I started with a band saw, small router table and a combo belt/round sander. Each unit cost me $100 (USD) plus my first piece of 1"x4"x10' piece of wood ($10 USD). This and about $50 in paint, epoxy and the terminal tackle and I made about 20 baits on my first run. For methods of making try a search on Google and you will find a bunch of sites.

Here is a great site out of the Netherlands: http://www.lurebuilding.nl

In short:
1) Make a template of your shape
2) Trace the template onto your wood
3) Cut it out
4) Shape the edges with the router
5) drill eye holes
6) Drill pilot holes for your screw eyes
7) Sand sand sand
8) Prep wood with a good sealer 2 or 3 times
9) light sand
10) paint with primer (I used a sandable primer and then sand and repaint until smooth)
11) paint the lure and put your eyes on.
12) coat with epoxy and use a lighter or torch with quick sweeps across bait to remove bubbles.
13) I hung my lures by the tail, let dry and recoat with epoxy then hang from the nose. Got a good smooth clear without having to use a drying wheel
14) re-drill out your holes for screw eyes
15) put screw eyes in and terminal tackle and test your lure

Note: if you want to weight your lure you need to do this after your initial blank prep. Make sure your lure is dry before continuing as you will need to water test your lure to make sure it runs correctly.

Many more notes on this but this is the basics of making a lure. Fun to do!

Im in Norway, and order most of my stuff from http://lurepartsonline.com/cart.html unless I need it fast, and smaller quantities, then I order from PA at Lundgrens.
