Location: SE, WI. | I very popular pattern for trolling is near bottom or bumping bottom, therefore a long lead is recomended to keep your line from getting worn or nicked up. Clam shells, zebra mussels, rocks, and wood all play havoc with your main line. I use 7 strand wire and lengths are 4-5 foot.

Location: Grand Rapids MN | A secondary reason (jdsplasher hit it on the head) is in the fall fish tend to roll in the line more so longer, larger diameter leaders help keep from cutting up the fish when they 'hog-tie' themselves. When I'm not bumping bottom or dragging over rocks I will use longer flouro leaders. Much easier on the fish. |

Location: lansing, il | If you dont like using Fluoro, You should use a coated wire. Itll reduce the risk of cutting the fish up, when they roll up in the leader. |
