just got a musky inovations mag dawg rod just wondering what sugestions of a reel should go on it. price dosen't matter really just want something that will stand up to the abuse of throwing pounders.

Use any abu reel they will hold up just fine unless you don't know how to retrieve and put all the stress on the reel. Then any reel will give you problems eventually. The abus are reliable and easy to fix if need be. You can fix anything on them yourself you won't need to send in for repair like all the other brands. Parts are easily accessible

OK, so for a gear newb, how do you retrieve and not put all of the stress on the reel? Put an angle in the rod to the bait, or point the rod right at the bait?

I think what the guest means is to put your thumb on the reel when you rip/pull the bait (with big baits like Pounders or big crankbaits) and then reel in the slack. As far as actually reeling the bait in, the bait pulls as much as it pulls, and you can't remove that stress from the reel. The best way to retrieve hard pulling baits is to point the rod directly at the bait and crank away. Not necessarily easier on equipment (but not really harder on it either), but easier on the angler.
