| Hello all, I had been using a calcutta 400 B for about 3 months with no problems. I added a shimano power handle to the reel, and now, once about every 50 casts my reel will engage midcast. Has anyone had any problems with their reel engaging after adding a power handle to their calcutta? |

Location: Leech Lake, Walker, MN. | What you are describing is common if you leave the handle up before you cast. The handle has to be in the down position. The explanation may be confusing, if the handle is up it may swing down due to the fast action of a cast. The handle swings down and engages the reel. This is not a good thing as it will eventually damage the reel. Hope this helps. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | On the 400TE replace the part # 2711 CLUTCH PAWL SPRING & the #1223 RETACTOR SPRING, on the 400B replace part # 1307 CLUTCH PAWL SPRING & #1223 RETACTOR SPRING, or Take the CLUTCH PAWL SPRING to a hardware store and try to get a H.D. spring, that will help to keep the reel engaging when U cast with a P/H. Replace the springs every year and this will help alot. Also hold the reel handle side up when you cast. |

| If I recall, a couple months ago this was discussed in a thread about the 'new' Lucanus Jig Version , which is basically a 400TE with a power handle. The weight of the knob causes the reel to engage. Nice fix posted above. |
