Subject: lowrance

Hi all im new to your forum , I am from the UK. my question is this, I have 2 new lowrance units, running off one transducer. the first in line is the lms 527 df igps. then i have a lms 5300 gps. they are both joined by ethernet cable(lowrance) when I switch on the units the 5300c doesn,t show the same sonar picture as the 527c. its more of a mess. The depth is ok. also it does,t give any temp. any imput would be appreciated. mike

Mike,

The 527 is a sonar/gps combo, the 5300c is gps only. I'm confused, your not suppose to get a sonar reading on the 5300c, it's only a gps. Not exactly sure how you would be getting a sonar picture. That might be why your getting a funny picture. The ethernet cable is to join two units that have sonar readings. That will enable you to pick which transducer you want both units to read. However, since you don't have two sonar units, I do not believe you will be able to do that.

With your current setup, you'd be better off networking the two units with a t-connector. That way you can share info of your gps's.

What exactly are you trying to do or in other words, what are you wanting the units to do?

Thanks for the reply. I was informed that money could be saved as the 5300c would act as a slave to the 527c. The ethernet cable being the link. mike

Yes, the unit would act as a slave to a another 527 or any other current sonar/gps combo, but not just a gps. The only thing you really can do is network the two so you can share waypoints and other data, not sonar info.

thanks for the input. the 5300c. does show the same as the 527 but its messy? also when i alter the screen to show a split screen its the same on the 5300c. also whilst out today i have noticed the tranducer ping noise is louder than usual. I do not believe it to be my imagination either. You know how it is when you are looking for imaginary problem solving. mike. ps had a good week in sep on LOTW. first time ever and managed a 40inch musky. you guys have so much water to go at. and your rigs are awesome. I will be going again next year. best regards. mike
