I just bought a Fishhawk 1650 (standard transom height) with a 70 hp 4 stroke Johnson on the back. The motor weighs 360 lbs. The boat label states that max hp is 90 and weight max is 1200 lbs. The boat planes quickly and runs 35 mph. My concern is that the transom does not appear to be very high above the water at rest. When loaded with gas the hulls blue paint line actually was slightly submerged. At half tank it rests at blue paint line. It doesn't take on water when I abruptly stop after running full out, but the bow does tip up slightly at rest. My telltale (peehole) is at the back of the motor and it sputters in and out of the water too. My worry is waves spilling over the transom on a rough day. Anyone have experience with this sort of thing or own the same rig? I am a little worried - got a great deal, but only if the boat is safe.
Thanks so much for your help!!!

I have a 1750 with a 75 yammie, yea, the boats tail heavy. Just put all of your stowable gear forward to even out the weight load and add splash guards. I've had mine out in 4 footers with no problems.

your motor should be at 1 hole up from the transom. this should also give you a performance boost and keep your pee hole out of the water. either way the boat is ok. like the last post said, put weight to the front of the boat

I have owned & operated a 1650 Fishawk with a 75hp Merc, 4-stroke for 7 years. No issues with backwash over my transom. Have operated it repeatedly at wavy places like: LOTW, Lk Erie, Georgian Bay, etc.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the info and will stop worrying now! I may add wave wackers - we'll see how it handles first. I am sure all is fine. It is one fine boat - I am very excited! It was nice to hear from snaggletooth seeing as he owns the same boat and motor setup as me.
