Hey guys I live in Maryland near Baltimore and wanted to know more about fishing for Muskie. I have heard that there are some in the Potomac and also in the Susquehanna rivers.
What do I need to get started and where would you go to target them if you were me?
I know most of you fish up north in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, and in Canadian waters but I am looking for a little advice.

get yourself like a 7'6" compre or st croix and an abu garcia or shimano reel. get some bucktails 80 lb power pro and a big net preferrably frabill or beckman, get some long needlenose pliers and hook cutters, hook file, either single wire or florocarbon leaders and a lot of luck.

As you are brand new to the sport, I would suggest hiring a guide. The things you learn fishing one day with a experienced angler would take quite a while to learn on your own. If there are any Musky clubs in your area, It might be a good idea to attend a few meetings. You usually meet some very good people, who can show you quite a bit that will help you. These are fun ways to learn a lot.
Here's a video about musky that may help you as far as how these fish live in rivers.

the river muskies in my area have been going to where there is colder water ie.. deep or creek inlets as the water temps warm up you have to be careful with these fish as they are more likely to not have a clean release. There is a ton of good info on here about locations you can search all posts and have enough reading material to get you through the winter
good luck and keep trying you'll get one.... eventually

You might also try 6" minnow lures such as the 6" Grandma and 6" Jake. These run shallow. (I downsize the hooks on a 6" Jake from 2/0 to 1 for better action.)
Don't go out without an adequate net, gloves, and long nose pliers.
I'm no expert but I would look for slack water, deep holes and lots of structure.
