On the 2001 campaign to throw more hair I'm now heading to Eagle Lake this coming week.....the bite has been on spinnerbaits and topwaters. Topwaters I've got covered (Ms.Slamr on TR and Creeper, me on the Jackpot and Viper), but on the area of spinnerbaits I'm putting myself in a bit of a quandry: does it make a difference on single or 2+ bladed bucktail? Do different conditions play into the equation (weather, time of day, time of year)? An answer of "let the fish tell you what they want" is not going to cover it......Thanks in advance!!

Andrew, you must know by now that I love my spinnerbaits. I use tendem blades with a lot of hair and heavy heads with 2 single hooks. Now my lures are custom made but I am sure there are a lot of good muskie sized ones on the market. You can check out my article in this issue of Pike and Muskie magazine as there is a picture of the spinnerbait I use as well as a lot of good info on how to use them throughout the season. Make sure you keep them up in the top foot of the water colum and move them fast.

Now get out there and stick a pig.

Slamr: To borrow a page from Dick Pearson's GREAT new book, "Muskies on the Shield", he recommends single blade spinnerbaits to "grind" thru the weeds when things are tough. I highly recommend you get and read it, hopefully BEFORE you get to Eagle, as it will help you put it ALL together!

Single blades run deeper and are better for stop and go (letting the bait fall)

Slamr,

Good question! I spent a few days in Bemidji MN this week and found most fish relating to Reeds near deep water... Only thing that moved them were spinner baits. During the day hours we fished smaller single blades due to clear water and sunlight...At night we did the opposite and fished big and loud Colorado double blades and scored with this combo. LOTW algae bloom is on so I would go with the double blade all the time due to conditions. Good Luck!
