Location: Bemidji, MN | I wonder if anyone has any advice on harvesting skunk tails. The ones you can buy are getting rather expensive, and it seems like I am using most of a tail for one bait. I have seen lots of skunks aroud my area, and probably could live trap some, but how do you "dispatch" the skunk without getting sprayed? I have heard of a guy who throws the trap, skunk and all in a barrel of water to drown it, but I would prefer a more humane method if possible. |

| J Nail- Skunks are really easy to trap. So easy you can place a leg hold trap above the ground and they will step on it--not the smartest animal in the woods. To dispatch them you can shoot them in the lung with a 22 short. It has to be a short, due to the lower velocity. I have shot about 10 sknunks this way and there is usually very little spray if any emitted. Best of luck! |

| Psh, 220 Swift to the Texas heart, and there's no odor. granted not much left of the skunk, either. :D
Actually, how many tails are you wanting? I have a wholesaler that I deal with (well, used to deal with) from fly-tying. They have everything from skunk to arctic fox.
PM me. |
