I use maple but am very carful at sealing it and giving multiple coats of epoxy. Cedar is a good wood IMO. Others here make some great glide baits and shoudl have a better opinion. If you do not have equipment it is cheap to get some good stuff to make some great baits for under $300. Good luck!

I bought a router, band saw, circular/belt sander and a drill. Had a few otehr items but those are the big ones. I bought Ryobe (sp?) equipment for $99 each. The main thing I did though was bought top of the line bits, snding belts, and a new saw band. The ones on the equipment are ok but the top of the line stuff really made a difference. Other than that the equipment was a motor for me.

PS-I now have my blanks made for me. The guy who makes them for me puts my work to shame... He sells some blanks on eBay if you wanted to play around first. His eBay name is:
http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZhawaiisbest60QQss...

He does not have any on now but he usually puts a few on now and then. I think a lot of guys here know who he is and the quality work he does.
