| Do side finder graphs work? Do they help you catch more muskies? I’ve looked at the Bottom Line Tournament Master 5300 but it looks like a device targeted at charter fisherman who use down riggers. Is there a good side finder graph out there that is cheaper and doesn’t have down rigger management functionality? |

| I would rather look behind my bait for a follow instead of a screen. If I saw a huge arc comming at me on the screen it would scare the bejezzers out of me.[] |

| I wasn't thinking of using it to see follows, asuming you were not joking. One of my neighbors uses one for bass fishing. He looks at the water between him and the shorline on the unit to determine if there are any fish on the structure and moves on if he doesn't see much. Based on his tourny wins, it looks like this method has him spending less time on structure that isn't holding fish. |

| I've got a Bottomline Tournament Master HR. This unit is the same screen and features as the 5300 EXCEPT no remote controlling of downriggers. It is an excellent unit... I am very pleased with it. And yes, the sidefinder works well. Adjust the range from 120' to 60' and you'll get much more information.
Once the floating weeds recede a little, I am going to break out the planer boards and test the sidefinder's accuracy a little more.

| Check out the new EAGLE (can't remember the model[:(]
They have a unit that has a 160 degree transducer. Gander Mountain and Scheels in my area sell them for about $170.
I too have been looking for a "sideview" unit for the very same reasons your buddy uses one for catching bass. I had a Bottom Line and sold it with my last boat (Dumbsh##[:0] )
I use it when trolling or casting open water for "suspendo's" to look for suspended schools of baitfish that are off to the side of the boat. Kinda nice to see what's off to the side of you.
I think both brands are reputable units Eagle is made by Lowrance and I have used their stuff on and off for many years with no problems. I have had a few problems with Bottom Line stuff but the problem was serviced reasonably.
Good Luck
