Is there anything that can increase performance for an outboard, any aftermarket stuff, better milage, speed etc. other than a prop??

Well the best thing for better milage is not running full throttle to every spot! As hard as that is to do for some, it actually might have to become reality for me with $3+ gas prices this summer!

I'm not sure it's really "aftermarket" but what I have found (thanks to Mark Hintz) is running the Mercury Engine Treatment stuff thru the gas really helps the motor run better...
Also Sea Foam in the first tank and once again before fall helps too...don't run them together...use them in different fill ups but I really noticed my 175 efi ran better with the Mercury stuff in the gas...it's like 11 bucks for 12 oz and that treats 72 gallons of gas..like Mark says,,,"cheap insurance"....
I highly recommend...Also, Yamaha Ring Free too is good.

Depending on what size motor you have, a hydrofoil on your lower unit will give you a little more speed, basically gets you on plane faster, had one on my 25 horse tiller and it made a huge difference, bigger outboard than a 60hp dont think you need one depending how big your boat is.....those things claim to save gas but I never noticed a big difference...

Depending on your motor, there are some aftermarket products that you could add to your motor, but EPA regulations restrict it to motors made before...I believe 1990 or so, unless you are doing it for testing or racing purposes.

I am always trying different things so I changed out my stock reeds with boyesen carbon fiber reeds and replaced the head with a higher peforming one (its been shaved a touch creating more compression in the cylinder chamber. The reeds are more flexible than stainless steel and do not have reed stops, which will allow them to open up more thus creating more RPMs. Then, if for some reason one gets sucked into the engine, it will not harm the piston.

If you have a mid sized Yamaha 2 stroke or larger, you can purchase high performance heads, Exhaust tuners, engine mounts, larger bore carbs, reeds, etc. that you can add to your motor and still be able to use pump gas, although it must be 89 octane or better.

Biggest thing, though is the EPA on this since the products have not been tested by the EPA, which makes it illegal to do the changes.
