Subject: One Lake a day?

How many people are like me and like to fish more than one lake in a day? Am I really increasing my odds by splitting my day on a few bodies of water? I know weather is a big factor for me in doing this, but some days my ADHD kicks in and I get a gut feeling that I will have better luck on a different piece of water. Should I stick to a lake a day??

Well I fish a very large river system that I split into multiple sections. I strongly belive you are better off fishing 1 lake at a time as you want to have your lures in the water as much as one can during the day. I myself trailler my boat from ramp to ramp and concentrate on that section for the day ( 5 miles ). I think every minutes spent on plane or trailler is a minute your not fishing.

It's not because you have no action in the morning that the fish won't turn on the rest of the day and that you will never find out by moving to another lake. You may actualy be moving from a lake that is about to turn on to another one that was hot in the morning and turns off before you arrive.

There are LOTS of days where I will leave Pelican or Boom, and head for different water because the fish were not 'going' on the pattern I felt was right for either system.

Sometimes I do well moving around, sometimes I find out the fish hit well just after I left.[8)]

There are many days I will trailer my boat at 2:00 because where I am and what I'm doing isn't working. Big fan of not beating a dead dog. Also found the drive to another lake offers time to collect yourself and come up with a new game plan. Sometimes the move pays off, other times it just offers different scenery.

I have fished 3 or maybe even 4 lakes in a day but
Today,,, I would only change lakes for the following reasons.

1st we are travelling. I'm going to spend what I think are the peak times on the water, and off peak times on the road,,,,

2nd The lake is not fishable, either by boat traffic, (Delavan/Fox Chain) Floating weeds or debris, (fishing Buckhorn lake in KY. the trash was so bad it was literally impossible to present lures effectively. The Mad chain at times there is so many floating weeds or green slime, again impossible to present lures). Wind, (Pewaukee a strong east or west wind can blow you right off the lake). High winds = time to head to a southern reservoir.

3rd Throughout the year we fish 30-40 different lakes.
Many of these are 1st timers. If we find that it's not what we're looking for then it time to pack it up and move on.

4th I'm bored....

I think once someone experiences and understands basic fish movements a couple of times, (fish are not active all of the time and may only get active once of twice a day) they are far less likely to pack it up early and head to the lake next door "until" they can say "ok the movement is over",,,, or "they just aren't going to move today",,,,, lets go!
