Sister in-law, looking for left hand reel. What do you think of 301 Cardiff. She uses Curadas, all left handed. Wanted a thumb bar. Small hands . Thanks in advance. Welts-MSKCKR

I have one. I dont really like it to much. It seems to backlash alot on me and I'm not one to do that to much. I have a shimano catala and that one I like much better.

Cardiffs are decent. nice and smooth. I do notice more backlashes with it though like metioned above. heavier baits are fine, just smaller ones that foul up more. good reel otherwise.

never had a problem with cardiff backlashing, and it's my main reel. make sure you adjust the little centrifugal weights inside it according to the lure size.

all weights out...more resistance, i use this for heavier lures.

all weights in....less resistance, and more backlashing

i stagger them in out in out in out and it works fine for anything from smaller 1/2 oz bucktails to 9 ounce gliders.

good reel for the money.

I wasn't too impressed w/ the cardiff, I have a 300 series and have used it for at least 3-4 seasons--I got it the summer right after they came out, whenever that was. I have a 6:1 gear ratio or so and there's absolutely no power, so I use it for bass fishing. It's okay, but for around $100 I think you can do better.

One nice thing is that it is easy to palm for a round reel, but it's far from the smoothest reel I own and I've never really trusted the durability. I've never had a problem with it backlashing.
