I'm a little confused,if record muskies can be evaluated by mostly photo evidence, then why is the catch and release muskie record not being challenged,as the photo is of only half a fish????? Are the people who keep musky records(keep & C&R) the same or different?

Guest, is there evidince the catch and release musky record is false? It had and has been widely believed the old spray and johnson fish are not as big and now a study has indicated so.

I've posted over on MH quite a bit on this topic. I will probably be tarred and feathered, soon...

The only records really being challenged are the blatant "fibbers"; those who claimed to catch fish that:

1) Were not as long or as thick as claimed. (We are not talking a few mm, either)
2) Overstepped the bounds of Biology. (Muskie don't grow that big. Yet.)

In the old days, it got to be a sort of fibbing contest. The first Liar always lost if you notice. The fish got just a tiny bit bigger, each new record. Until finally they are well into "IMPOSSIBLE" territory. Right around 57-58 pounds.

Few Muskie ever reach 60 pounds. We're talking an Angus Macaskill type fish with an eating disorder and Myostatin Deficiency. Genetic Freaks with Medical Disorders.

Are there 70 pounders...? Maybe. It would have to be one of those 60 pounders that had a terrible aversion to eating anything but 30 inch gamefish...that would keep it away from anglers...try trolling LOTW with a 36-inch Lake Trout on a quick strike...;)

The catch and release record would have to be proven to be well off the mark as determined by photo analysis. Not the easiest thing to do unless the fish is held vertically or laid flat on the ground next to an object of know dimensions. WHICH IT SHOULD NOT BE IF RELEASED!!

The real problem is that today's angler's are a hell of a lot more honest, if only because they know they can't get away with anything!

I'm kidding. Sort of. We are comparing the morals of guys who used to hook a fish and shoot it mid-fight 5-10 feet from the boat versus guys today who have a deep care and affection for the living creatures they pursue...that's the real marker of the difference in integrity...

Plus no contest paydays..;)

I think the C&R record was either disqualified, or not accepted once. Sort of a bad deal for the dude if I remember correctly. I think he had documented the catch and measurement on video but not sure. All I remember is that it came from Lac Seaul in the early 90's.

What is the current muskie C & R world record? How come no one talks about it? What do you have to do to qualify a fish for a C & R record.

Grass,
