Heading to leech mid Sept for 6 solid days of chasing skies. Never fished leech this time of year only mid August, any advice on types of areas to hit? I will be staying on the west side of portage bay. Typically this time of year are the fish still in the weeds, on rocks, in the reeds? How about baits, jerks, dive-rise, glide, bucktails, topwater? Not much into trolling but looking to stick a pig or two whatever it takes.
Years past we have hit the Hayward area this time of year for anually musky hunt but decided to give leech a run this year.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Matt

Matt-
Go to Jim Murphy's site fishingleechlake.com Check out the fishing reports. He will give you straight advice of where to put in and what patterns may be working. Good luck, Go Cyclones!
All the best,
Don

DJ, thanks for the tip with Murph! I have posted over there as well just thought this area would get more views from others in the area. Just can't agree with you with the clones though

Try portage bay out form the new camp grounds nice weeds and throw bulldogs. we caught muskys to 53 inchs there that time of year . Also fish tyhe rock reefs with bulldogs and bucktails Orange or chartuse blabes. The musky will also be starting to move into the reedbeds or pencil reeds throw spinnerbais like grinders the fish can be real shallow.I like the pipe island area for that reed fishing and it dose work in portage bay and around five mile point. Matt .GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the help guys, we just got back yesterday, only got blown off the lake 1 out of 5 days. Boated a 40, 42, 43, and 47 inch fish all fish came out of weeds 7-10'. Only raised 1 fish out of rocks and around 20 others raised in the weeds. Great trip Buddy got his personal best at 47" and I got my only fish (42") with about 20 mins left to fish the last evening. Seems like a great time to fish Leech. Cant' wait to get back up there next year.
